Maintenance-free pavements
In many of the country’s municipalities, maintenance-free pavements are constructed using a combination of concrete and natural stone, typically known as “Copenhagen pavements”. These pavements are zoned, with the concrete paving stones being the walking zone and the natural paving stones (cobblestones) serving the purpose of guiding and separating lines.
The natural stone paved areas pose a significant maintenance challenge for the municipalities’ operating units. The reason for this is that the joints in natural stone surfaces are usually jointed with a loose grouting material. The use of loose jointing material gives rise to continuous challenges with weeds in the pavement, as well as the loose jointing material disappearing over time, typically with the use of sweeper-suction machines, leaving the natural stone loose and unsafe to walk on.
Maintenance-free pavements are a great investment – in more ways than one!
Several municipalities have addressed the above challenges by installing Lithomex strength joints in pavements.
The arguments in favour of using Lithomex strength joints in pavements are many. After applying Lithomex jointing material, the natural stone paved areas will appear maintenance-free and with the same visual appearance all year round (24/7/365).
