Fredens Torv in Aarhus

One of the town’s central squares has truly undergone a remarkable transformation. What used to be a dull, asphalt-covered area, primarily used as a parking lot and turning point, has now become a central, inviting, and atmospheric urban space.

The architect behind the beautiful transformation of Fredens Torv in Aarhus is Aarhus Municipality’s Department of Technology & Environment. The paving work was carried out by Søgaard Brolægning A/S, who have delivered a result that is outstanding both aesthetically and professionally.

This sets the framework for businesses to attract visitors and shoppers. Specifically, parking spaces have been converted into bicycle parking, trees have been planted, benches have been installed and large planting beds have been created, contributing to a greener urban space. The road through Fredens Torv has been s-shaped and paved with recycled cobblestones. The recycled cobblestones are bonded together by Lithomex’s strength joint L50, which is characterized by being able to withstand heavy traffic loads, e.g. from refuse trucks. Lithomex L50 is also frost and UV resistant, it resists sweeping and vacuuming machines and it minimizes costs for operation and maintenance of the new Fredens Torv.
